Scriptures for healing from bitterness and anger
Here are some scriptures to help those who may be struggling with bitterness and anger.
Bitterness is a sin. Therefore, to be healed of bitterness requires us to repent. Acts 8:22-23 “Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you. 23 “For I see that you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by iniquity.” (NKJV)
Bitterness is not something that possesses us. We can choose to put it away (otherwise this scripture could not have been written…). Ephesians 4:31-5:2 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. 32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ forgave you. 1 Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. 2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma. (NKJV)
God healed the bitter waters of Marah when Moses threw in a tree. The bitter waters of your heart can be healed with the Cross of Christ (i.e. dying to self, excusing the sins of others against ourselves). Exodus 15:23-25 Now when they came to Marah, they could not drink the waters of Marah, for they [were] bitter. Therefore the name of it was called Marah. 24 And the people complained against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?” 25 So he cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a tree. When he cast [it] into the waters, the waters were made sweet… (NKJV)
Christ took the spirit of bitterness to the cross, and through his strength so can you! Psalm 69:21 They also gave me gall for my food, And for my thirst, they gave me vinegar to drink. (NKJV) John 19:29-30 Now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting there; and they filled a sponge with sour wine, put [it] on hyssop, and put [it] to His mouth. 30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit. (NKJV)
